This position serves as the Lead Patient Services Assistant to work in the Healthcare Benefits section.

Duties

The Lead Patient Services Assistant is in the Healthcare Benefits section and is responsible for serving as the Lead for the other Patient Services Assistants in the office. The Lead is responsible for a wide range of assignments and provides administrative support to the section. Patient Services Assistants primary responsibility is interviewing patients applying for medical benefits at the facility. This information serves as a base for determining entitlement to medical care as well as bill preparation and collections on all billable episodes of inpatient and outpatient care. Accurate and complete data collection is essential to proper processing of third-party collection requirements as mandated by law. Patient Services Assistants are also a very important in providing clinical staff recovery, which has a direct impact on reimbursement to the facility as it prioritizes our Veterans and encourages them to continue seeking our services. As the Lead, you are responsible for distributing and balancing the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization. The Lead is responsible for the status and progress of work, adjusting in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor when problems arise. You are responsible for reporting on completion or work and reviewing work to ensure the supervisor's instructions have been followed and rejects work that does not meet expectation. The Lead instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and makes available written instructions, reference materials and supplies. You will provide on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. You will assist with intake duties as needed. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/03/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. GS-7Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-06, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge of the laws and regulations pertaining to eligibility and entitlement for benefits in a health care setting; knowledge of Medical Center procedures, regulations, physical layout, staff and functions; knowledge of specialized experience in Patient Enrollment, Eligibility Verification and Personal Funds of patients; knowledge of the Privacy and Freedom of Information Acts; ability to monitor performance and progress of employees and report to supervision for training and promotional purposes; good communication skills, both written and orally, with emphasis placed on interviewing which is the main responsibility of this position; must have customer service and interpersonal skills and the ability to relate and coordinate with individuals of all socioeconomic and educational levels; skilled in interpreting computer generated reports and understanding data processing capabilities; skill of a qualified typist is required, as data entry is a main responsibility of this position. Must have leadership skills, the ability to inspire, motivate and guide others toward goal accomplishment; coach and mentor subordinates. In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following skills, as appropriate. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test. Office Automation: 40 words per minute typing speed Physical Requirements: Regular and recurring work is mostly sedentary involving sitting at a desk, although the position requires the ability to move from one geographic location of the facility to another. Working with a computer screen and keyboard. Some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending or prolonged sitting may be required. The work places no special physical demands on the employee. The work does include high stress with frequent short deadlines. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
