Duties
Serve as the Naval Health Clinic Charleston (NHCC) Safety and Occupational Health Specialist ensuring a safe and healthy work environment is provided for personnel and a safe environment of care is maintained for patients and visitors.
Review proposed equipment procurement requests to ensure the appropriate safety measures are taken.
Manage Safety and Occupational Health programs in accordance with OSHA, OPNAV and BUMED requirements
Conduct surveys of facilities and operations to evaluate the effectiveness of safety standards and practices to assess the degree of compliance with applicable mandates, standards, and directives.
Analyze mishaps and hazardous conditions to determine where it originated and the cause and contributing factors followed by written reports regarding the findings
Provide safety training and education activities, promoting safety awareness through councils, courses and online training.
Advise the Command on local policies and regional planning involving safety, health, and environmental issues.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.

Specialized Experience: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge of safety and occupational health principles, practices, concepts, laws, procedures. Assess broad range of safety program operations and carries out measures which will eliminate or minimize unsafe conditions with the potential for causing personnel injury or property damage. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-11.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
