This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located in U.S. Army Medical Department Activity (MEDDAC) Deputy Commander for clinical service, Fort Drum, NY.

Duties

Prioritizes treatments for patient having multiple problems and employs a variety of established emergency medicine techniques, methods, and equipment to the appropriate medical facility. Performs operator maintenance on the vehicles and equipment, as required. Respond on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses, sometimes encounters situations which may be life threatening. Perform procedures, as required, and in strict compliance with standing orders and protocols. Conduct a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and searches for medical alert symbols. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
• One year trial/probationary period may be required.
• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required
• This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
• This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• This position requires a State Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) or National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification at the time of application.
• This position is designated essential during inclement weather or appropriate emergency conditions and the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work during inclement weather.
• The incumbent for this position is required to obtain and maintain a valid government vehicle operation license.
• This position requires wear of a uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
• The incumbent is required to perform shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, and holidays and in other situations.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• This position requires National Registry Paramedic certification (NREMT-P) within one year of being hired.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses; (2) conducting examinations to obtain patient vital signs, and initiating intravenous (IV) therapy; AND (3) operating a patient transport vehicle. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Licensure/Certification: Current certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) as a Paramedic; Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross; Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
