The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as primary point of contact with overall responsibility for planning, coordinating, facilitating and directing squadron information technology systems operations.

Duties

Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Logistics Readiness Information System Services, ensuring Information Systems comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs. Represents the 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Provides technical assistance, systems advisory services, and training. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) and Information Assurance Officer (IAO) for the Logistics Readiness Squadron. Project Manager. Lead project management efforts for IT initiatives, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specification.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location. Travel may include overnight stays.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement.
  • Employee of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted
  • Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions for the GS-0335, Computer Clerk and Assistant Series. https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=Group-Standards SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR CURRENT/ PREVIOUS FEDERAL EMPLOYEES: One (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Which includes; Utilizing information technology system hardware and software and how they are interconnected in normal and variable operating conditions for executing applications programs on multi-processor and stand-alone multi-program computers. Applies IT principles, methods and practices sufficient to carry out difficult assignments, identify and resolve system and software problems, provide aid to customers and apply appropriate security measures to ensure network viability. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR APPLICANTS WITH NO PREVIOUS FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT:One (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08, or equivalent in other pay systems. Which includes; Utilizing information technology system hardware and software and how they are interconnected in normal and variable operating conditions for executing applications programs on multi-processor and stand-alone multi-program computers. Applies IT principles, methods and practices sufficient to carry out difficult assignments, identify and resolve system and software problems, provide aid to customers and apply appropriate security measures to ensure network viability. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Current/ previous Federal Employees; one year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. Applicants with no previous Federal Employment; one year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of IT customer support concepts and methods, installed operating systems, network systems, applications, protocols, and equipment, and the Logistics IT infrastructure sufficient to serve as senior customer technical analyst with responsibility for resolving the most complex customer problems. 2. Knowledge of IT security principles, concepts, practices, products and services, and methods for evaluating risk and vulnerability, implementing mitigating improvement, and disseminating IT security tools and procedures for the Logistics information systems. 3. Knowledge of database management and project management methods sufficient to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot database performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions. 4. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures. 5. Knowledge of local area network systems, equipment, software, and hardware to provide technical specifications, installation, configuration, maintenance, training, and assistance in all computer-related areas. 6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
