Duties

You will perform daily inspections, and preventative maintenance on apparatus' and equipment. You will respond to medical emergencies on either fire apparatus or an ALS ambulance, and perform initial and ongoing assessments. You will communicate with online medical direction via radio, telephonic or wireless network device. You will serve as a member of a rescue team responsible for the rescue, and on scene care of victim(s) of fire, sudden illness, accidental or other types of injuries. You will perform hazard risk assessments and conduct a complete incident analysis. You will participate in daily training and instruction covering all phases of fire protection and prevention.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position requires rotating shift work.
  • You must possess a current National Registry or State Certification as Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P).
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current Advanced Cardio Pulmonary Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-08 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing emergency response to include fire prevention, protection, and suppression, emergency medical treatment, hazardous materials response; AND providing training regarding fire prevention or emergency procedures. GS-08: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-07 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing emergency response to include fire protection and suppression, emergency medical treatment, and hazardous materials response. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is designated emergency essential personnel and the position is subject to recall. You are required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/Policies You will be required to participate in the Department of Defense Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program. You will be required to maintain compliance with NFPA 1582 (Fire Fighter Physical Medical Evaluations), NFPA 1583 (Fire Fighter Fitness Program Requirements. You will be required to participate in the mandatory F&ESD Physical Fitness Program to maintain a level and degree of fitness needed to perform all duties. You will be required to obtain and maintain privileges with the Onslow Camp Lejeune Emergency Medical system. You will be required to obtain and maintain current FIREFIGHTER certifications: Hazardous Material Awareness, Hazardous Material Operations, and Hazardous Materials Technician. You will be required to possess and maintain certification a FIREFIGHTER I by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard. You will be required to possess and maintain certification a FIREFIGHTER II by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard. You must be able to obtain and maintain a current FIREFIGHTER certification: Driver Operator Motor Water Supply. You will be required to obtain and maintain current FIREFIGHTER certifications: Driver Operator Pumper and Aerial. You will be required to possess and maintain a current Emergency Vehicle Operations Certification (EVOC) or obtain within 6 months of hire. You must be able to obtain and maintain a current: Airfield Operators permit and Airport Firefighter certification. You must be able to obtain and maintain a current: Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter (ARFF). You may be subject to mandatory recall during destructive weather, major incidents, or any other time determined by the command. You will be required to work hours and conditions under close contact with supervisors for long periods of time. You will be subject to adverse weather and/or harsh working conditions; burns, smoke inhalation, noxious fumes, falling materials, and explosions. You will be exposed to communicable diseases, unsanitary conditions and traumatic injuries. You will be required to possess and maintain the physical stamina, agility, and mental stability to work under conditions where intense periods of physical exertion and mental stress, under adverse conditions, may be encountered. You must be able to work under emergency conditions giving clear, definitive instructions, in a decisive manner to firefighting forces and other emergency service personnel. This position is performed indoors, outdoors, in all types of weather conditions and is subject to heat, cold, smoke, wind, humidity, and stress. This position requires the use of specialized protective clothing and respiratory protection. This position is subject to exposure from hazardous materials that include chemicals, fuels, biological agents, radioactive particles, and explosives. The provision of Advanced Life Saving (ALS) Emergency medical services exposes to such hazards such as infections or contagious diseases. This position is considered essential and maybe recalled to duty in the event of a natural disaster or base emergency.
