You will serve as an Administrative Support Assistant (Office Automation) in the Research and Development Service, Code of 350200 of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY. Duties

You will provide guidance and assistance to employees for training and travel. You will provide supervisors and employees with guidance on policy and procedures for time card administration. You will be responsible for receiving, reviewing, and forwarding badge requests on a daily basis. You will prepare and log all official correspondence pertaining to Real Estate and Real Property actions. You will maintain databases to track time sensitive bade requests from receipt to issuance, and final turn in when projects or visits are complete. You will serve as an alternate timekeeper for wage grade employees by entering time and attendance data into automated systems.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-01/04) or pay band (NC-01) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: (1) Composing, typing, copying, and editing correspondence; (2) Preparing and/or process travel, personnel, payroll, procurement and training requests according to regulations and procedure; (3) Applying various automated data processing systems and functions; (4) Operating web-based storage and retrieval systems; (5) Directing external and internal inquiries to the correct expert / personnel; and (6) Effective oral and written communication. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.

In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
  • 4 years above high school
OR
  • A combination of education and experience totaling 100%
