Duties

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Trust Funds Administration, Trust Operations - Information Resources & Trust Records, located in Lenexa, KS and Albuquerque, NM. At the full performance level GS-12 the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Reprioritizes and allocates resources as they become available and recommends additional components to improve overall system performance. Keeps abreast of current and emerging technologies and systems administration practices and methods. Analyzes and provides cost-benefit analyses to decision-makers for recommended changes. 2. Develops standard operating procedures for a variety of IT hardware tasks or activities. Modifies, adapts, and/or refines broader guidelines to resolve specific complex and/or intricate issues and problems; and identifies and researches trends and patterns in order to develop new methods and criteria and/or propose new policies or practices for systems administration activities. 3. Plans and coordinates product and equipment installation and lifecycle upgrades, overseeing and resolving technical and administrative problems, controlling current versions and future releases of hardware and applications software, and documenting the physical configuration of the systems. 4. Optimizes the functionality and performance of systems. Maintains systems integrity and availability anticipating likely capacity or configuration problems and initiating corrective or preventive actions. Diagnoses and recovers failed systems. 5. Consults with customers to identify priorities and best approaches for integrating systems administration requirements into daily operations. 6. Determines best approaches for implementation aligned to Department and the organization's strategic and funding priorities. 7. Researches options for problem resolution and recommendations. Presents in writing or orally to audiences within and external to the organization, identifying priorities and barriers to project accomplishment. Recommends additional components to improve overall system performance. 8. Ensures guidance and work products comply with Department and the organization's IT security requirements. Identifies and mitigates security vulnerabilities and risks. BTFA has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. Rotating and/or weekend work may be required, (i.e., emergency situations). The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. Some employees may occasionally be exposed to uncomfortable conditions in such places as research facilities. Salary Information Lenexa, KS: $88,324 - $114,818 per annum Albuquerque, NM: $87,878 - $114,237 per annum First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level. This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available. This vacancy is also announced as BTFA-6410-24-CM-016(MP) for those applicants who wish to apply and be considered under Merit Promotion procedures.

Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position you must meet the (1) Individual Occupational Requirement AND (2) Specialized Experience for the grade to which you are applying. (1) Individual Occupational Requirement: For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND (2) Specialized Experience To qualify for the GS-12, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) Implementing, managing, and troubleshooting of cloud computing technologies (e.g. MS Azure); 2) Integrating on premise computing and storage technology with cloud-based environments to create secure hybrid datacenters (e.g. MS Windows Server, MS Azures, AWS, Express Route); 3) Automating server, application, and Active Directory related information gathering, analysis, and management tasks through the development of 'scripts' written in common 'languages' (e.g. PowerShell); 4) Planning large scale data, system, and information migrations; and 5) Planning and implementing granular cost management strategies, to control, report and project anticipated financial expenditures related to the consumption of cloud-based resources to a variety of audiences. MUST MEET AT LEAST 3 of 5.
