Located within the Alexandria VA Health Care System in Alexandria, Louisiana which includes 6 community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), the Maintenance Mechanic position is assigned under Engineering Services, Maintenance Section.

Duties

Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs moderately complex electronic equipment Reviews specifications, schematics, block diagrams, and technical orders Analyzes schematic layout and conducts preliminary visual inspections and operational tests to determine component malfunctions or invalid readings Replaces damaged, missing, burnt or faulty items Tests voltage, ohms, relays, and fuses to detect and diagnose malfunctions Repairs/replaces parts and components Repairs motorized equipment found in a complex medical facility such as forklifts, manlifts, gates, dock lifts, garage door assemblies, air compressors Performs difficult welding that includes a range of gas welding torch processes Uses architectural, manufacturer's and engineering specifications, and technical manuals to select/recommend repair methods and materials required Maintain various types of locking systems to include installing and maintaining various locking devices Utilizes various hand tools, drills, voltage and ohms meters, wire strippers and crimpers, cable and wire testers Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm; Subject to change based on the needs of the facility/service. Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD061500 Physical Requirements: Position requires frequent strenuous physical demands, not limited to lifting and carrying 50 pounds. Daily duties require considerable walking, stair climbing, ladder and scaffold climbing, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, working off high ladders, scaffolds, wearing harnesses and respirators, and heavy lifting and strenuous exertion for extended periods as required. Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): May be authorized.
