The Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) serves as a Podiatrist for the Roseburg VA Health Care System in the Surgical Services department. The incumbent has a high degree of motivation, skill, and dedication to effectively deliver Podiatry care.

Duties

Eugene is the 2nd most populous city in Oregon after Portland. Located in Lane County, Eugene is also referred to as the 'Emerald City' and is at the southern end of Willamette Valley, near the confluence of the McKenzie and Willamette rivers. Home to the University of Oregon, Bushnell University, and Lane Community College, Eugene is known for its college culture, focus on the arts, recreational activities, and green activism. The official slogan of Eugene is "A Great City for the Arts and Outdoors." The DPM is responsible for diagnosing and treatment of foot, ankle, and lower leg problems. Setting Fractures, prescribing physical therapy or drugs, or performing surgery on feet, ankles, or legs; Treatment of Achilles tendinitis, ganglia of the feet, diabetic neuropathy, foot ulcers, gout, rheumatoid arthritis; stress fractures, or bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. The duties and responsibilities of the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) include but are not limited to the following: Participates in all aspects of general Podiatry program, to include clinical, administrative, academic, and research components if warranted. Provides comprehensive assessment and diagnostic services for Veterans with broad range of pain related injuries requiring advanced diagnostic and intervention skills. Demonstrates expertise in using and contemporary interview and assessment methods for acute or chronic disorders and/ or behavioral conditions. Provides education to patients and family members regarding mental disorders and best practices approaches to treatment. Provides comprehensive assessment of Veterans at imminent risk for any conditions. Develops, implements, and documents the treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients, as indicated and appropriate for the specific job setting and duties of the physician. Assists the Team Leaders and/ or Program Director in design, development, and implementation of clinical assessment and/or intervention programs. Qualifications

Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Two plus years of practicing in the field of Podiatry. Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs); Light carrying (under 15 lbs); Straight pulling (.5 hr); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (4 hrs); Standing (5 hrs); Repeated bending (1 hr); Both legs required; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Both eyes required; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades or colors; Hearing (aid may be permitted); Emotional/mental stability under stress; Typing/computer work (6 hrs+); Basic life support skills (Chest compressions). Environmental Factors: Working closely with others; Working alone.
