You will serve as a PRODUCTION MACHINERY REPAIRER in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will answer trouble calls, diagnose trouble and disassemble machines, appliances, and equipment. You will remove and replace broken, worn, misaligned, or otherwise faulty parts. You will read blueprints and make sketches, lay out work, and make templates. You will be responsible for routine planning and arranging for proper and safe operations, ensuring that materials, tools, and methods used are safe and proper for work. You will be responsible for the maintenance of high speed and high pressure equipment which could cause a very serious accident and/or delay important completion dates if it were not properly maintained. You will install, maintain, repair, and rehabilitate machine tools, and production machinery such as lathes, shapers, mills, radial drill presses, brakes, shears, bending rolls, and steam hammers. You will inspect, check, and test machines, appliances, and equipment and locate trouble areas and make adjustments.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and nonionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • The incumbent must be able to lift and/or carry 60 pounds and occasionally over 60 pounds.
  • The incumbent may work in shops, buildings, aboard ships, and on piers with nuclear and non-nuclear equipment, systems, and projects as assigned by management.
