About the Position: This position is located at the South Florida Operations Office of the Jacksonville District in Clewiston, Florida. Clewiston, historically known as America's Sweetest Town, was incorporated in 1925 and occupies 4.57 square miles. Clewiston is centrally located in south Florida about 60 miles east of Fort Myers on the Gulf of Mexico and 60 miles west of Palm Beach on the Atlantic Ocean.

Duties

Supervises and directs crew in performing daily preventative maintenance, servicing, testing, and adjusting equipment also makes minor mechanical repairs as required to keep equipment operating. Knowledge and ability to operate, maintain and license all assigned employees on a variety of heavy engineering equipment on all types of terrain to excavate in-depth knowledge of a variety of soils and terrain features to determine the proper approach according to surface and subsurface conditions. Supervises a crew ensuring thru a licensing program their ability to efficiently and effectively Drive/Operate On-Road and Off-Road Vehicles safely to prevent personnel injury or equipment damage.

Ability to supervise, operate, train, and license others in a variety of construction and maintenance equipment such as bulldozers, graders, rollers, dump trucks, excavators, 50-ton tractor trailer, cranes, etc. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) and Ability to Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle)Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)Ability to Supervise through Subordinate SupervisorsWork Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Conditions: Uses heavy physical effort by constantly reaching, bending, turning and moving hands, arms, feet, legs, and body to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces and on inclines. Because of the location of some of the controls, and attachments, the operator is frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. Repair work requires incumbent to work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and on parts that are in hard to reach places. Working Conditions: Works outside exposed to seasonally hot and cold weather, fatigue from heavy labor, strains, falls, cuts, bruises, abrasions, burns, fumes, dust, insect bites, noise and usual hazards relative to equipment operating. Operates engineering equipment near or adjacent to buildings, trees, drop-offs and water control structures on steep or rough terrain over rock, sand, gravel, shell, muck, or fallen trees and heavy vegetation. Works behind coffer dams or other dewatering systems above or below grade. Repair work is performed indoors in drafty, noisy environment. Must stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time, crawl under vehicles and is exposed to grease, dirt, battery acids, and hydraulic fluids.
