The Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center is recruiting for one (1) Maintenance Mechanic Lead. The Maintenance Mechanic Leader is a critical member of the Carpenter/Locksmith unit. The Maintenance Mechanic Lead serves as a work leader for the Maintenance Mechanic, Carpenter, and Lock shop components of the Carpenter/Locksmith unit.

Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Instrumentation
The incumbent is considered a working leader in charge of all activities assigned and performed by the Maintenance Mechanic, Carpenter, and Locksmith Units.
The incumbent is also responsible for training or acquiring the proper training for all other personnel assigned in various phases of their work assignments.
Assists the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor in planning the use of subordinate workers, equipment facilities, materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis.
Assists with developing performance standards and recommends to the Supervisor concerning formal appraisals of subordinate work performance
Performs comprehensive maintenance and repair, including preventive maintenance, installation and modification on a wide variety of piping and plumbing systems and equipment.
Maintenance Mechanic Lead shall have the ability to construct, alter, repair, and/or modifies items and structures, such as frameworks, doors, windows, screens, desks, chairs, panic hardware, work benches, cabinets, display racks, counter tops and shelves.
Incumbent shall investigate, repair, and rework locks, they shall also troubleshoot locking mechanisms that interrelate with equipment such as monitors, alarms, timing mechanisms, sensors and other equipment in complete security or surveillance systems.
Incumbent must have the ability to read, write, speak and interpret the English language and transform those interpretations into actions required for equipment operations and repair.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Various Shifts (Must be ready to work rotating shifts as required) Once fully qualified to work unsupervised within the boiler plant, selectee will be required to work swing shift (4:00 PM to 12:00 AM) or graveyard shift (12:00 AM to 8:00 AM), on a more permanent basis.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: This position requires walking, standing, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling moderately heavy loads daily and occasionally heavy loads. Incumbent must be in good physical condition, have good eyesight with or without glasses and cannot be colorblind. A yearly physical is required.
Working Conditions: Exposed frequently to temperature extremes, drafts, dampness, water and noise for work conditions. A majority of work takes place in an industrial environment and may require work outdoors, exposed to the elements. He/She will frequently encounter ladders, catwalks, confined spaces, etc. Incumbent could be subjected to hazards normally encountered in the trade and may be exposed to asbestos. This position requires working rotating shifts and overtime. While performing certain tasks, personal protective equipment (PPE) is required such as, but not limited to, fire retardant clothing, hearing protection, eye protection, gloves, half face respirator, self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), etc.
