This position is located at Claremore Indian Hospital. The purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive nursing services for ambulatory patients in the Adult Medicine Clinic.
Duties
Serves as a member of the health care team with an assigned patient load in the Outpatient Department.
Provides nursing services for adult patients with a wide variety of medical conditions and illness in the Adult Medicine Clinic.
Observes patient, documents patient's condition, vital signs and measurements on the electronic medical record and initiates plan of action to carry out nursing services according to appropriate nursing guidelines and prescribed medical treatment.
Supports patient and/or family in the integration of the patient plan of care toward changes to improve health by observing patients and/or family's need for education and provides and documents patient education. Documents patient's understanding of educational instructions.
Observes and documents all relevant data regarding the physical and emotional status of patients.
Observes and takes action to alleviate problems reflected in patient's condition such as significant change in vital signs.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
License: Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as practical or vocational nurses in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia or must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of the license showing expiration date, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it (or applicants must list their license number on their resume, along with the expiration date). Acceptable verification of licensure includes a print out from a State Board of Nursing website (or other applicable license verification website that reflects your licensure status). Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period. Those not licensed must furnish the date on which they applied for a license and the jurisdiction involved. No person appointed pending licensure may be retained beyond the probationary period if licensure has not been attained.
Additional Requirements for Grades GS-4 and Above
Experience
Qualifying experience includes nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing such duties as:
Providing pre- and post-operative patient care.
Observing, recording, and reporting changes in behavior of mentally ill patients.
Providing reassurance and encouragement to mentally ill patients.
Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients.
Setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus.
For GS-5 and above: 1 year of nursing experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level is required.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks
GS-05:Have 1 year of nursing experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level and Includes nursing care work In a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: performing basic nursing care work such as observing, recording and reporting changes In behavior of patients; carrying out nursing procedures according to guidelines and a nursing plan of care; providing instructions to the patient and/or family of the patient; taking vital signs and measurements; setting up medical equipment for procedures; and assisting physicians and registered nurses with procedures. My work experience was in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility.
GS-06:
Have 1 year of nursing experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level and Includes nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures as described In the vacancy announcement. Examples include: performing a moderately difficult range of nursing care work such as observing, recording and reporting changes in behavior of patients and taking action to alleviate problems; initiating a plan of action to carry out a nursing plan of care; providing educational Instruction to patients and families of patients; performing a range of treatment procedures such as inserting catheters, sterile dressing changes, administering medications, giving immunizations; and assisting physicians and registered nurses with procedures. My work experience was in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility.
The selected individual is required to maintain a Practical Nurse/Vocational Nurse unrestricted license. If licensure is not maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Education
Education is not a factor in determining eligibility for the GS-05 and GS-06 grade level for a Practical Nurse. Applicants must meet the basic and minimum qualifications as listed above in order to qualify for this position.
