This position is located in the Emergency Department of the, Hopi Health Care Center, in Polacca, Arizona. This position works in a specific area where emergency care is provided on a 24-hour basis. Primary assignments include providing comprehensive and continuing health and medical care services for patients, including very difficult and complex cases. The incumbent reports to the Clinical Director.
Duties
Provide emergency care on a regular and recurring basis to adult and pediatric patients seen in the Emergency Department.
Assists in the supervision and teaching of the staff assigned to the Emergency Department. Provide expertise and consultation in emergency medicine to other service unit physicians and staff as required.
Assists in assuring that the requirements of The Joint Commission (TJC) and Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA) Regulations are met.
Advises employees on performance requirements and expectation on their positions and keeps employees informed on their progress in meeting requirements.
Active in the planning and implementation of training for pre-hospital providers, medical dispatchers, nurses and physicians involved in the EMS Department or disaster training.
Recognizes and gives initial treatment of acute psychiatric problems.
Monitor the emergency department usage, patient complaints, and staff complaints and recommend changes to satisfy those complaints.
Makes appropriate referrals and obtains appropriate consultations as needed after primary evaluation has been completed.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): All physicians must meet all three of the following basic requirements:
1. Degree - Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association(external link); Association of American Medical Colleges(external link); Liaison Committee on Medical Education(external link); Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates(external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
2. Graduate Training Subsequent to Degree - Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada.
3. Licensure - For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Applications will be accepted from physicians who are not currently licensed; however, if selected for a Federal appointment they must obtain a license before entering on duty. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: The below qualification requirement is a Selective Placement Factor (SPF) and is required in addition to the minimum requirements. The SPF is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Applicants who do not meet a SPF will be ineligible for selection consideration. Board Certification: Board Certification has been determined to be important to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Board Certified in the Emergency Medicine specialty by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) is a condition of employment.
AND
Completion of a residency program that involves training in Emergency Medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association, (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: GS-0602-15
Your resume must demonstrate at least five (5) years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Federal service or the private or public sector.
GS-15 level: 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
Note: Applicant must provide evidence of current, recent, competent emergency care; New applicants may be requested to provide documentation of the number and types of hospital Emergency Medicine cases during the past 12-24 months. Applicants have the burden of producing information deemed adequate by the hospital for a proper evaluation of current competence, and other qualifications.
This position requires that you obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges. If they are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee may be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from the Federal service.
