Employee will be assigned to the Maintenance Section, VA Medical Center, Cincinnati, OH, performing work that primarily involves repairing and operating several utility systems in the facility.
Duties
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Starts, stops, and regulates the utilities and their system components for optimum efficiency and to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair them.
Performs preventive maintenance according to predetermined routine guidelines on various mechanical equipment and systems.
Provides continuous coverage and engineering support to facilities included in the Cincinnati Division.
Addresses, troubleshoots, stabilizes, and/or resolves emergency situations requiring Engineering Service involvement.
Determines the appropriate action(s), then initiates and coordinates the necessary action(s) to stabilize or fully resolve or repair the situation in question.
Maintains a detailed log/account of all shift activities including an explanation of decision making involved in emergency situations.
Operates, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs utility systems including but not limited to the following: Air Conditioning Systems; Pneumatic Tube System; Medical Gas Systems; Steam Distribution System; Water Distribution Systems; Electrical Distribution System; Natural Gas Distribution System; Vertical Transportation Systems; Refrigeration Systems; and Miscellaneous Communication Systems.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Tour of duty is 7 days on, 7 days off; 6 days of 12-hour shift, 1 day of 8-hour shift; works weekends, holidays, and rotates hours.

Qualifications
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT: The position requires a current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Refrigerant Certification (NOTE: Please submit a copy of the certification with your application packet.)
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Employee must be in a satisfactory physical and mental condition and fit for duty at all times, excluding body maintenance items. Employee will be required to bend, stoop, crawl, walk, climb, jump, and lift heavy objects for moderate time durations. Efforts will vary depending on the task to be performed.
Employee is occasionally subject to very uncomfortable and possibly dangerous working conditions. Tours of duty are accomplished independently on a rotating shift plan. Employee is required to mix and handle chemicals for chilled water treatment; required to work in varying degrees of temperature; will be exposed to hazards such as electrical shock; and will be required to work on ladders, platforms, mechanical rooms, and carry heavy objects up and down stairs.
