About the Position: Serves as a senior Safety & Occupational Health (SOH) Specialist to the Safety and Occupational Health Manager (SOHM) at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) - Norfolk District (NAO). Assists with the planning, development and directing of overall District safety and occupational health program.

Duties

Conducts surveys at a variety of workplaces to identify non-compliance with safety and occupational standards Reviews government and contractor accident prevention and risk management documents to ensure safety and occupational health hazards. Collaborates with engineers, architects, and other specialists in the development of project plans, to ensure the safety of employees, contractors, and the general public. Develops specialized education training materials and conducts and directs training sessions. Serves as technical advisor to boards investigating accidents to ensure effective investigation and proper documentation. Provides dive safety advice to the District Dive Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must have a valid state driver’s license.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical.
  • This is a Career Program 12 position, and requires completion of CP-12 ACTEDS training and receipt of CP-12 Level One certificate within 12 months of employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
