About the Position: Provides sustainable environmental conservation to the installation.
Duties
Perform work requiring knowledge of gardening procedures and skill in growing and tending lawns, shrubs, and trees.
The work includes planting and transplanting trees and shrubs, trimming, pruning, fertilizing, thinning, seeding, mulching, aerating, spraying
and preparing soil for plants.
Operate equipment and gardening tools and performs preventive maintenance duties.
Requirements
- Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 5 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Gardener without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance and operation of garden machinery and equipment to perform skilled gardening techniques. I can perform planting, transplanting trees and shrubs; trimming, fertilizing, seeding, mulching and preparing soil for plants; inspecting and resolving tree and plant distress;preparing, maintaining and operating equipment such as lawn mowers, trucks and end loaders; and operating weed eaters, pruning shears and other power operated garden tools. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT. Work requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and stooping. Occasionally climb ladders to prune trees. Frequently lifts objects in excess of 50 pounds, such as sacks of fertilizer and tree logs.
WORKING CONDITIONS. Work is performed outdoors where the incumbent is subject to all types of weather. Incumbent is exposed to dirt, dust, mud, and the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and even broken bones resulting from the operation of equipment and potential falls.Working Conditions are considered in the evaluation of this position.
