The mission of the Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is to promote and achieve compliance with labor standards to protect and enhance the welfare of the nation's workforce. Wage and Hour Technicians work in a District or Area Office and provide enforcement support to internal personnel, technical assistance to the general public, complaint resolution for employees and, investigative assistance to investigators.

Duties

This is a developmental position with a full promotion level of GS-09. As a Wage and Hour Technician at grades GS-7 through GS-08, you will receive on-the-job and other formal training related to the provisions of the laws enforced by the agency. You will work under close observation/direction of a subject matter expert or a supervisor. Your assignments are more limited in complexity and are performed under closer supervision and extensive review. You will perform the following duties (which is not an all-inclusive list) and as you progress, the assignments will become more difficult and complex in preparation for the next grade level until you reach the full performance, GS-09, grade level.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old and a U.S. Citizen.
  • Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level.
  • Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level, in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience includes: Preparing written communication to summarize information. Responding to and/or resolving customer complaints. Assisting with interviews or investigations to gather data/information. Analyzing numerical data to identify discrepancies and/or perform mathematical calculations. Bilingual - Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred, however it is not a requirement, and you will be given full consideration if you are not bilingual. If you indicate that you are fluent in both Spanish and English, you may be interviewed in both languages and you may be asked to read/write and/or translate documents from Spanish to English and vice versa.

Education

This position has no education requirement and there is no substitution of education for specialized experience at this grade level. Applicants must possess the required specialized experience.
