The incumbent prepares and paints various surfaces such as masonry walls, sheetrock walls, wood doors, wood trim, wood wainscot materials-walls, steel doors, sheet metal, structural steel members, celotex tile, asphalt and concrete pavement.

Duties

The incumbent performs as a journeyman Painter and in this position must be knowledgeable in the properties of different types of paints. Must be able to determine the appropriate type of paint to use on different surfaces. Must be skilled in tinting paint and applying directions that relate to the mixing process. The incumbent must be knowledgeable in the use of thinning agents and be able to determine the correct ratio of thinner to paint. The incumbent must be skilled in the correct preparation of surfaces, including but not limited to, masonry walls, sheetrock walls, wood trim, sheet metal, structural steel, celotex, metal or wood rails, steel or wood doors, asphalt, concrete, etc. Incumbent must be knowledgeable in correct trade practices related to priming and weatherproofing exterior surfaces. In the preparation of surfaces, the incumbent must be proficient in the use of metal fillers, wood putty, glazing compound, masonry products and joint compound in order to fill cracks and holes in different surfaces. In this position, the incumbent must have the skill needed to apply coating materials by any of the accepted techniques including those for achieving special effects. He/she must be knowledgeable in the application of various types of paints and finishes to achieve an evenly coated surface free of brush strokes and paint runs. The incumbent must possess the ability and knowledge to use various types of traderelated tools and equipment such as spray guns, air compressor, electric sanding equipment, paint stripper, electric agitators, etc. Must also be able, and possess the knowledge to maintain the equipment in good working condition. The incumbent must be skilled in various methods of sign making such as the use of stencils, block lettering, and operating an engravograph machine. The incumbent must be skilled and knowledgeable in the installation of vinyl wall covering. install the vinyl free of winkles and air bubbles with concealed seams and to also evenly cut at ceiling and at base line to achieve a professional installation. The incumbent must be skilled in the use of measuring instruments such as rulers, volume measuring containers, etc., in order to read and apply directions that relate to the mixture, use and application of various kinds of coating materials, solvents and precoating agents. Able to compute square and linear footage and volume in order to accurately determine amounts of wall vinyl, paints, and thinners needed for individual tasks. The incumbent must have the knowledge to read and interpret blue prints, work orders, sketches, and other written instructions to determine appropriate paint and wall vinyl to be used and to determine locations for installation of signs. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/02/2024. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Painter ~ without more than normal supervision. You must have the ability to perform common duties of a Painter. You must be able to prepare and paint a variety of surfaces using spray guns, brushes, rollers and abrasive sandblasting equipment in a commercial building or industrial plant. Work is performed under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
