This position is located in the Health Information Management Department of Wagner Health Center,
Wagner, SD. This function assures complete diagnostic and procedural coded data for research, epidemiology,
outcomes and statistical analysis, financial and strategic planning,
reimbursement, evaluation of quality of care, and communication to support the patient's treatment.
Coding provides the primary source for data and information and promotes
the continuity of medical care and reimbursement.
Duties
Abstracts all necessary information and assigns codes (ICD-10, CPT & HCPCS). Determines the final diagnosis and procedures stated by the physician are valid. Works with automated records systems.
Assist with the review, analysis, technical evaluation of the Patient Component Encounter (PCC) form in relation to the completeness of diagnoses, procedures and provider signatures.
Conducts quality control and improvement by tracking and identifying inadequate documentation. Communicating program software and hardware programs and maintaining workload logs
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: General Schedule Qualification Standards (opm.gov)
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-06, Medical Records Technician/Coder:
Applicant must have one year of full-time general experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level that equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. The experience is related to work of the position: Examples
include: Abstracting data from a medical record; performing chart analysis; and following well established medical records procedures
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-07, Medical Records Technician/Coder:
Applicant must have one year of full-time specialized experience comparable indifficulty and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level that equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. The experience is related to work of the position:
Examples include: performing technical and specialized functions for an outptient and inpatient medical record; performing quality assurance of medical records; and coding diagnostic and procedural information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-08, Medical Records Technician/Coder:
Applicant must have one year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-08 grade level that equipped
with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. The experience is related to the work of this position:
Examples include: performing the full range of medical coding; assigning International Classification of Diseases; Ninth and Tenth Revision,
Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM), Current Procedural Terminology, Fourth Edition (CPT-4) and Healthcare Common Procedure
Coding System (HCPCS) codes; and applying coding knowledge to a wide range of specialty areas.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
