Duties
The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Operations Command (SpOC), 19th Space Defense Squadron at the Naval Support Activity South Potomac (NSASP) is searching for a Software Engineer (NH-1550-03, GS 12/13 Equivalent).
Description:
The 19th Space Defense Squadron is a new unit in the United States Space Force leading the way for innovation and federation in space to maintain freedom of action for the U.S., allied, and commercial partners. We are seeking professionals who will push the bounds of space domain awareness for the foundation of space defense.
To position serves as a professional software engineer/computer scientist in support of the 19th Space Defense Squadron's (19 SDS) SDA mission. The position primarily involves the application of, or research into, computer science methods and techniques to store, manipulate, transform or present information by means of computer and weapon systems.
The ideal candidate will possess a STEM degree or extensive STEM experience with a bachelor's or master's degree.
Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Professional knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and practices involved in engineering, machine learning, mathematics, and/or computer science to perform studies, modify standard practices, and/or resolve issues related to the planning, development, fielding, and sustainment of complex electrical systems.
2. Knowledge of security procedures to maintain control of classified material.
3. Knowledge and understanding of agency, USAF, USSF, Department of Defense (DoD), and national-level doctrine, regulations, policies, guidelines, requirements, and initiatives related to assigned program(s) and/or project(s).
4. Skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to identify, investigate, and resolve complex issues or problems.
5. Ability to foresee the impact of changing technology.
6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, in order to produce highly technical reports, position papers, and briefings which are appropriate for the intended audience; and to maintain good working relationships.

- This position is on-site and not eligible for remote or telework.
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret w/SCI clearance.
- Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
- Employee needs to obtain and maintain approval to access the portfolio of Special Access Programs required to perform daily duties.
- This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program and subject to random drug testing.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- Individual may be required to work outside of normal duty hours, extended hours, overtime, holidays, rotating shifts, and weekends when supporting an exercise or real-world contingency.
- The employee may be required to conduct and /or respond to emergency situations.
- PCS and relocation funding are not available.

Education
This series includes professional positions which primarily involve the application of, or research into, computer science methods and techniques to store, manipulate, transform or present information by means of computer systems. The primary requirements of the work are (a) professional competence in applying the theoretical foundations of computer science, including computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations; (b) specialized knowledge of the design characteristics, limitations, and potential applications of systems having the ability to transform information, and of broad areas of applications of computing which have common structures, processes, and techniques; and (c) knowledge of relevant mathematical and statistical sciences.
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
