THIS IS A ND NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. Military membership is NOT required. This ND National Guard position is for aIT SPECIALIST (NETWORK), Position Description Number T5239000 and is part of the ND G6, National Guard.

Duties

As an IT SPEC (NETWORK), the purpose of this position is to serve as a project leader for major network projects relating to the Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) systems. The incumbent functions as the technical coordinator or technical specialist on issues relating to the WAN/LAN systems and their integration with the network. Responsible for ensuring the correct configuration of network devices. Develops and maintains documentation regarding network configuration, operating procedures, necessary to maintain the reliability of the network. Develops plans and procedures for remote installation of applications and upgrades using state of the art software distribution methods. Serves as network administrator responsible for configuring hubs, and switches, monitoring network performance, performing network diagnostics, analyzing network traffic patterns; and installing network software fixes and upgrades.

• This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
• The incumbent shall comply with the requirements of the certification program and will be required to obtain and maintain certification. Certification requirements are outlined in DoD Instruction 8570.01-M
• Irregular and overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.
• The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
• Designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of computer processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess the required one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or civilian equivalent to include 1) Develops the standard configuration software loads for all network devices; 2) Determines the use of network devices such as servers, workstations, and peripheral devices, and remote access systems; 3) Directs the analysis of equipment and software reliability and utilization reports to identify and define problem areas; and 4) Conducts performance tuning activities designed to optimize data management processes? Refer to "How you will be Evaluated" section of this announcement. Part-time or unpaid experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid work on the same basis as for paid experience. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. To receive credit for such experience you must indicate clearly the nature of the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the number of hours per week spent in such employment.
