You will serve as a MATERIALS HANDLING INSPECTOR in the ORDNANCE OPERATIONS DIVISION KINGSVILLE of NMC CED DET FORT WORTH COMP KINGSVILLE.

Duties

You will assure the quality, quantity and safety of ordnance materials and operations as related to the receipt, storage, segregation, and issue (RSSI), handling, renovation, preservation, packing, documentation and shipping of such items. You will perform receipt and issue inspection of ordnance items including receipt/issue quantities to documentation and certifies items as ready for issue (RFI). You will inspect and approve transportation conveyances as suitable for loading and the blocking and bracing of the conveyance and load. You will perform inspection to determine adequacy of operations and facilities. You will advise management on safety of facilities, equipment and planned operations. You will review inspection requirements, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and safety regulations with the work group and-assures adherence to procedures and other governing directives. You will perform quality visual inspections of ordnance materials for defects which may include identification markings, labels, tags, material condition, hazard classification, compatibility, serviceability, service life, etc. You will successfully complete, obtain, and maintain quality inspection certification per DoN Ammunition sentencing Guidance, providing assurance required in making quality decisions and recommendations.

  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • Incumbent will obtain and maintain materials handling equipment (MHE) operator's license.
  • Incumbent will obtain and maintain an explosives hazardous materials driver's license to operate motor vehicles having a gross vehicle weight of more than 32,000 pounds.
  • Incumbent will obtain and maintain a commercial driver's license (CDL) endorsement for hazardous materials for off base over public highway movement/shipment.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete explosives safety courses as required by NAVSEA OP 5 Volume 1 and NMCCEDINST 8023.lC current series.
  • Successfully completed safety courses will include Basics of Naval Explosives Hazard Control, Materials Handling Equipment (MHE) Operator Training, Explosives Hazardous Materials Driver training and refresher courses as required.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: Operating equipment for loading, transporting and storing ordnance materials; Performing receipt, storage, segregation, inspection, and issuance of ordnance material; Safely handling ordnance materials while following all safety practices and regulations; Using carpentry tools to build block and brace ordnance for safe transport; Reading, following, and adhering to all Navy manuals and publications related to ordnance items.
