The primary purpose of this position is to function as the Force Support Squadron (FSS) Program Support Specialist ensuring all aspects of Force Support Readiness, Contingency Operations, Honor Guard, and Mortuary Affairs meet Air Force requirements.
Duties
Provides technical guidance and recommendations to squadron leadership regarding the unit readiness program.
Installation Honor Guard Program Management.
Represent the Force Support Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
Plans, organizes, and directs Force Support Search and Recovery and Mortuary Affairs programs.

- The incumbent will be required to complete Mortuary Affairs Technician training as soon as training is available.
- Incumbent will be required to complete the Base Honor Guard Program course within 6 months of arrival.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- Incumbent may be required to work other than normal duty hours to include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

- Shift work and emergency overtime may be required.
- This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of
- all functions. IAW, DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs.
- This position is emergency-essential. In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent, or designated alternate, must continue to perform the Emergency-Essential duties until relieved by proper authority. The incumbent
- or the designated alternate may be required to take part in readiness exercises. This position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively.
- This meets the criteria of an Emergency- Essential position and requires that the incumbent, or the designated alternate, be removed from any military recall status. Employee must sign DD Form 2365 as a condition of employment.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialize experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, for Administrative and Management Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of the mission, regulations, policies and precedents which affect the use of the program and related support resources pertaining to Honor Guard, and Mortuary Affairs meet Air Force requirements. Knowledge of state and county laws and regulations in regards to search and recovery procedures and installation response roles and responsibilities. Knowledge and skills in applying and evaluating methods and techniques for search and recovery operations, and base honor guard functions. Knowledge of natural disaster response procedures, training, techniques, and the use of programs, missions, and functions of the installation and MAJ COM to plan, schedule, and coordinate mortuary related issues and activities. Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and precedents affecting deployment operations. Knowledge of the theory and principles of management and organization, including administrative practices and procedures pertaining to areas of responsibility, channels of communication, delegation of authority, and routing of correspondence.

EDUCATION: have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position; or LL.B. or J.D., if related. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: have less than the full amount of specialized experience required. However, I have at least one year of progressively higher-level graduate education, but have not obtained a master's or equivalent graduate degree. Therefore, I have a combination of experience and education. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of a wide range of unit readiness, personnel, education and training, instructional systems, and/or services operations, directives, procedures and programs.
2. Knowledge of search and recovery, as well as mortuary programs, and developing emergency management procedures and installation emergency support plans.
3. Knowledge of methods, procedures, skills, and policy in evaluating and managing the installation Honor Guard program to identify and meet mission requirements.
4. Ability to recognize the inter-relationships of various aspects of operating programs to integrate and analyze information to evaluate overall program status.
5. Ability to identify, analyze, and translate complex information, make appropriate judgments, and evaluate options concerning unit readiness.
6. Ability to independently plan and coordinate travel, lodging, memorial, and funeral services in compliance with regulations, the wishes of the PADD, chaplains, Honor Guard, funeral home, commanders, and outside agencies.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
