You will serve as a PACKER/FORKLIFT OPERATOR in the Warehouse Transportation and Distribution Branch, Supply Division, Logistic Department of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS, Stennis Space Center, MS.

Duties

You will perform a variety of tasks involved in the packing and repacking non-hazardous and/ or hazardous materials and items. You will determine the proper container and packing method to protect sensitive electronic equipment, mechanical devices, HAZMAT, and precision parts from damage during shipping and stoarge-in-transit. You will examine any prepackaged items to determine whether any repacking or over-packing is required. You will receive, store, ship and distribute a wide variety of bin supplies, materials, equipment, and commodities using material handling equipment to include fork lifts, stock selectors, etc. You will modify, repair, construct or assist in the construction of standard wooden shipping and storage containers.

Requirements

  • Work is usually performed in a warehouse, industrial environment.
  • Frequent lifting over 50 pounds, kneeling, crouching, stooping and walking are required.
  • The incumbent must possess and maintain (or the ability to obtain one within 90 days) a forklift operator's license and meet all required medical/physical requirements.
  • Incumbent must have above average reading skills and successfully attend and pass the Transportation of Hazardous Material Course, A-822-0012 at Newport, RI.
  • Must maintain HAZMAT certification during entire employment period. Failure to obtain/maintain HAZMAT certification will result in removal from position.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of as a Packer (Forklift Operator), WG-7002-06 without more than normal supervision such as: Ability to examine shipments to qualify them for shipment. Ability to operate warehouse fundamentals and operating forklifts and other material handling equipment (MHE). Ability to research packaging data files to determine requirements for shipping.
