The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is November through May but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: November 2024.

Duties

Operates farm-type tractors and towed or attached equipment to maintain grounds, mow landscaped areas and median, plow snow, grading fire roads, grading parking lots, cleaning beaches and fire pits. The incumbent frequently operates towed or attached equipment from the seat of the tractor through hydraulic or mechanical controls. Equipment operated may include mowers, plows, harrows, chippers, sprayers, disks, post hole diggers. Performs sweeping with bobcat. Pulls rollers and water tanks. Moves dirt with backhoe. Runs chipper, chipping limbs cleared from road. Work may involve making multiple hydraulic and mechanical connections between the towed and or attached equipment and the tractor. Incumbent works on level or rolling terrain in such areas as open fields, parks, or along roadways. Work independently or with a small crew to install and maintain gates, signs, and other road associated assets Physical Demands: Incumbent operates tractors in all types of terrain (steep and level) and along roadways. Incumbent must be able to do heavy to strenuous lifting (50 pounds), stooping, bending, climbing and working in cramped positions. The incumbent frequently operates towed or attached equipment from the seat of the tractor through hydraulic or mechanical controls, Grad 6 tractor operators exert additional effort in operating equipment controls, making more frequent arm and leg movements. Working Conditions: Work location is outside, potentially in extreme temperatures. Incumbent must be capable of sustained physical effort under these conditions. Dirt, dust and marginal ranges of air pollution are present. Operators at the grade 6 level primarily work outside and are exposed to all kinds of weather conditions. Some operators are exposed to chemical dust and sprays and may need to wear protective clothing and respirators.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Mow shoulders of steep and narrow front country and backcountry roads, open fields and hillsides, and ground having uneven terrain. Plow snow from parking areas and roads. Perform road surface, shoulder, and drainage maintenance and repairs. Maintain, fuel, and perform minor repairs to tractors, chainsaws, weed trimmers, and other diesel or gas powered small equipment Work independently or with a small crew to install and maintain gates, signs, and other road associated assets. Perform heavy hand labor as needed. Use park owned computers for web based training, correspondence, research, and documenting work activities Have the ability to do the work of a Tractor Operator without more than normal supervision. (Screen out) This includes work such as operation of field/farm type tractors such as a John Deere 5100, 100 HP or size equivalent, and a John Deere 6200 95 HP or size equivalent, over uneven terrain such as open fields, ditches, banks, lawns, hills, steep backcountry roads, paved roads, sheer drop offs, muddy conditions, etc. Hooks up and operates various attachments and auxiliary equipment such as backhoes, boom mowers, rear flail mowers, brush hogs, wood chippers, front end loaders, post hole diggers, street sweepers, and beach cleaners.
