This position is located in Timpanogos Cave National Monument, in the Interpretation Division.
Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will be in pay status approximately 22-23 pay periods, and you will be in a non-pay status for approximately 2-3 pay periods in November and December.
Duties
Major Duties of the position:
Research, develop and present interpretive talks and programs for diverse audiences, both inside and outside of the park.
Manage all aspects of a high-quality interpretive program
Communicate effectively with visitors and representatives of external groups such as Park partners, neighboring communities, agencies, etc.
Coordinates community engagement activities with external partners, community members, and staff.
Mentors and coaches interns, seasonals, and partner staff
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
The employees of the National Park Service care for special places that are the heritage of all Americans. Since its inception in 1916, the National Park Service has been dedicated to the preservation and management of this country's outstanding natural, historical, and recreational resources. Park ranger - interpreters connect people to parks. They play a key role in ensuring that visitors have a meaningful, satisfying, and safe park experience, help visitors decide how to spend their time in the park, and inform them about the wonders that await their discovery. Park ranger - interpreters are specially trained to engage the public so that each park visitor can find a personal connection with the meanings and values found in the places and stories of that park. They help visitors explore the many dimensions of parks by introducing them to a variety of perspectives. By providing the opportunity for visitors to care about the places they visit, they promote stewardship and the opportunity for those visitors to care for park resources. National parks are among the most remarkable places in America for recreation, learning, and inspiration. The work done by park ranger-interpreters through effective interpretive and educational programs encourages the development of a personal stewardship ethic and broadens public support for preserving and protecting park resources, so that they may be enjoyed by present and future generations.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following: Park Ranger or tour leader; environmental educator or teacher; archaeological or historical preservation research work; management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; or other similar work. Experience must include independent research and presentation, such as developing and presenting formal and/or informal interpretive programs to the general public, school groups, or to guide tours through historic buildings, museums or over nature trails. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one year of graduate level study in directly related fields such as natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, emergency management, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. You must include transcripts with your job application if you are qualifying based on education. 1 year of graduate school equals 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, if you have 6 months of the specialized experience described (50% of the experience requirement), and at least 1 semester of college graduate study in a directly related field from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education requirement), then you would meet 100% of the qualification's requirement. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.

Meet the criteria for Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) as evidenced by one of the three following methods: I am in the upper third of my graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; OR I have a GPA 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum, or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in my major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR I am a member in one of the national scholastic honor societies
To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

Specialized experience is experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following: Park Ranger or tour leader; environmental educator or teacher; archaeological or historical preservation research work; management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; or other similar work. Experience must include initiative and resourcefulness, such as: (1) suggesting new interpretive program topics, revisions, or other improvements; (2) participating in program plans development; (3) developing interpretive materials such as pamphlets, exhibits and signs, or scripts for audio-visual, radio or television presentations; (4) responsibility for onsite interpretive services and developing daily work schedules; (5) coaching other interpretive program staff; or other similar tasks. You must include hours per week worked

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least possess two full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education, or a master's or equivalent graduate degree in one of the following fields: natural resource management, natural sciences, marine biology/sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, wetlands ecology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. (Two years of graduate education is 36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours). You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and (27 semester hours or 41 quarter hours) of directly-related graduate level college study in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
