About the Position: Serves as a Division Secretary within Real Estate Division for the New Orleans District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Duties
Receives and distributes incoming mail for the office.
Maintains suspense records on incoming and outgoing correspondence and documents and follows through to ensure suspense dates are met.
Edits drafts for proper English and puts in final form.
Takes handwritten and other notes and uses a variety of software including word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic slides such as in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Coordinates and provides technical guidance for administrative work and processes.
Reviews all outgoing correspondence prepared by personnel in the Division for signature by the Division Chief.
Prepares and processes personnel actions and training requests using HR and administrative software.
Coordinates preparation of training plan with Division secretarial staff to meet suspense dates and procedural requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- May be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
- This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Specialized Experience, GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) office functions as related to clerical and administrative support to complete reports, track suspense dates, etc.; AND 2) office automation procedures and techniques, i.e. proofreading required document formats and grammar; AND 3) composing non-technical correspondence using correct spelling, grammar and correspondence format. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Specialized Experience, GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) office functions as related to clerical and administrative support to complete reports and compose replies to incoming correspondence; AND 2) office automation procedures and techniques, i.e. proofreading required document formats and grammar; AND 3) composing non-technical correspondence using correct spelling, grammar and correspondence format; AND 4) making travel arrangements; AND 5) having contact with senior managers and other staff members. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
