Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) at Schriever Space Force Base (Colorado Springs) is searching for a Deputy Director for the MILCOMM Transition Division, SSC/CGX (NH-0801-03, GS-12/13 Equivalent). Description: The MILCOMM Transition Division executes the unique mission of transitioning new capabilities from acquisitions to operations in support of military and national security goals. Personnel in this organization gain an understanding of operational mission needs and play a key role in closing capability gaps through system development while also utilize technical/programmatic skills and knowledge to translate programmatic challenges back to the operational community. In this position, engineers will be expected to identify and solve real-world technical problems as well as support long-term planning for transitioning new capabilities into operations. The primary operating location for the Transition Division is Schriever SFB, CO with occasional travel, alternate operating locations, and prime contractor facilities. Situational telework is authorized. Specific examples of duties accomplished in this position include participation in program technical baseline or program management reviews, support to various IPTs, development of government program transition plans, engagement with operator counterparts, participation in enterprise risk management processes, evaluation of system capabilities, and coordination of operational or external organization technical requirements. Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will possess the following skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Strong briefer; Technical and Program Management knowledge; Ability to innovate and think outside of normal processes/procedures. Engineering or Technical Undergraduate degree. The following experiences are desired: Satellite Command and Control Segment operations, Infrastructure, and/or development; hardware deployment/integration; systems engineering. Key Skills and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of the principles of planning and program management; of standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures; and of other engineering disciplines used in support of sustainment, modification, and maintenance programs. 2. Ability to encourage new ideas and innovations; manage human, financial and information resources strategically and build coalitions to achieve common goals. 3. Skill in working with customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations 4. Ability to persuade others to accept recommendations, work toward an agreement, and negotiate mutually acceptable solutions. 5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, with technical accuracy and to use computers and a variety of software programs and databases, gather and analyze a variety of program information, make sound judgments concerning program progress, and effectively communicate recommendations orally and in writing to higher organizational management and contractors. 6. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; determine goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinate with other organizations; monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes. 7. Ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and decisions to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations.

Requirements

  • This position is eligible for telework 2-4 days a pay period.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise; employee must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • PCS/Relocation funding is available.

  • This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program.
  • A professional engineering degree at the bachelor’s level from an ABET accredited institution in (specific discipline of position) or a closely related field is required.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): 15 days a year.
  • Employee must within 30-days of assuming this position and by 31 October annually thereafter, file an OGE-450,
  • This position is part of the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP).
