The position is at the full performance level located in the Engineering Service. The purpose of the position is to perform as a Painter applying coating materials on wood, metal, glass, synthetic, concrete, and other surfaces.
Duties
The major duties and responsibilities include:
Redecorating offices, wards, corridors, dining halls, living quarters, and shop buildings.
Painting and refinishing furniture, wood, and metal, such as desks, cabinets, chairs, operating room, and laundry equipment.
Glazing and caulking windows on air conditioning equipment.
Installing vinyl wall coverings, hanging paper, etc.
Cutting stencil, painting signs, and blending and mixing colors.
Preparing coating material by tinting, toning, matching, blending, and mixing various additives.
Applying special finishing techniques such as marbling and graining; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Saturday-Wednesday 7:00am-3:30pm

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Physical Requirements: The employee prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms, and where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard-to-reach places. This position requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee frequently lifts, carries, and sets up equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally, the employee may handle materials that weigh 40 pounds or over.
Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside, and dirt, spray, and fumes are usually present. The employee sometimes works outside in inclement weather. Occasionally, the employee may be required to wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. The employee is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. The employee is occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones.
