You will serve as a Aircraft Mechanic in the MRO Production Department of FLTREADCEN EAST.
This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
You will disassemble aircraft or major components for overhaul or modification.
You will remove major components of aircraft structure or systems such as panels, fairings, doors, hatches, landing gear assemblies, engines, gear boxes, prop rotors, helicopter blades, electrical wiring, tubing, etc.
You will determine the required repairs, reassembles, and reinstalls on aircraft.
You will perform complex tasking, installs, adjusts, aligns, troubleshoots, and perform final functional and operational tests on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assemblies, components.
You will make adjustments and settings such as cable tensions, seat settings, etc.
You will conduct pressure and obstruction tests of fuel systems and checks pneudraulic/ hydraulic systems after repair of aircraft.
You will provide guidance, train and or mentors other artisans qualified at the journey level or lower (worker, helper, apprentice, pathway, etc.) level in the airframes trade.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

I have the ability to perform common tasks including: (1) Performing metal repair, fabrication, plan, layout and structural disassembly/assembly of aircraft and aircraft components; (2) Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical specifications, and schematic diagrams.; (3) Demonstrating knowledge of the physical properties and working characteristics of plastic, composite, and compound ingredients with a working knowledge of metals, metal properties, and metal characteristics; (4) Utilizing measuring instruments such as torque wrenches, micrometers, go no go gauges, multimeters, feelers gauges and tension meters. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
