About the Position: The position is located at the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCoE), Directorate of Public Works, Ft. Moore, GA. The "Maneuver Center of Excellence" is located 100 miles south of Atlanta and is adjacent to Columbus, GA and Phenix City, AL. The geography and climate are ideal for year-round military training.

Duties

Perform ecosystem and threatened / endangered species monitoring requirements. Implement wildlife management to include prescribed burning, vegetation management, nuisance wildlife control, and game and fish management applications. Direct the efforts of a team with diverse backgrounds and experience levels in completing wildlife and endangered species management. Provide professional expertise required to operationally plan, manage, and execute the endangered species, fish and wildlife program on approximately 150,000 acres of the Installation. Adjust to changing environmental conditions and military training effects on the landscape to successfully achieve critical mission requirements for endangered species management.

Requirements

  • Subject to a one year Supervisory Probationary period.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Subject to call 24 hours a day, seven days a week in case of emergency to suppress forest fires.
  • Subject to weekend shift assignments.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Incumbent must maintain Class B Commercial Driver's License or be able to obtain one within eight months of hire date.

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); AND at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes implementing the operations of a natural resources management program; project planning, developing local policies, technical specifications, and standards for timber marking, forest inventory, timber harvest, reforestation, wildfire suppression, prescribed burning and other natural resources management activities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
