The primary purpose of this position is to monitor and control access to the controlled/restricted area to include flight lines and to perform random inspections of the entry control points and the controlled area perimeters.
Duties
Performs inspections within and adjacent to controlled areas to include flight lines.
Controls personnel access to the controlled area.
Performs traffic control duties.
Performs administrative duties.

- The work required is sedentary. May require some walking , standing , bending , carrying and/or lifting light items like papers or books and climbing stairs.
- The work is performed in settings in which there is regular/recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasant work conditions , such as high levels of noise or adverse weather conditions. The employee required to wear protective clothing.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: 6 months general experience.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 6 months general experience and 6 months specialized experience, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a psychiatric nursing assistant or a similar position safeguarding patients is qualifying.

EDUCATION: Successfully completed 2 years of study at an accredited college or university in any subject is fully qualifying.
Training: Successful completion of training in an accredited technical school that covered subjects such as physical security procedures, local laws, or investigative techniques is considered qualifying for specialized experience at the GS-4 level on a month-for-month basis.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-03 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-04 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of a standardized body of controlled area regulations, procedures, and terminology to perform guard work independently.
2. Ability to act decisively in emergency situations.
3. Ability to direct fire and emergency vehicles and restrict other traffic from entering areas in the vicinity of emergency situation .
4. Ability to accurately update records and prepare reports; and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
