Duties

As a Telecommunications Specialist, at the full performance level, you will perform the following duties: Serve as a technical authority with responsibility for advising on the technological feasibility of processes, systems, and equipment utilized in HSI investigative operations. Maintain and review state-of-the-art electronic surveillance systems and equipment, working with manufacturers, vendors, and program managers to derive new functional designs that will make the systems and devices more efficient at fulfilling HSI mission requirements. Recommend to program managers changes in program directions, solutions to problems or redirection of effort as required. Recommend processes and systems to improve HSI capabilities in meeting the electronic surveillance needs of investigation. Coordinate technical elements of the agency's technical operations including design and construction of electronic surveillance devices and systems.

  • Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as: Serving as a subject matter expert (SME) on advising on the technological feasibility of processes, systems, and equipment utilized in criminal investigation operations; AND Experience working with manufacturers, vendors, and program managers to derive new functional designs that will make the surveillance systems and devices more efficient at fulfilling investigation mission requirements; AND Experience planning, developing, designing, coordinating, reviewing and providing expert technical advice on electronic surveillance systems in support of the investigative mission to include, but limited to: tracking, video, audio, telephone or other systems in support of the electronic surveillance program operations.
