The primary purpose of this position is to provide developmental experience designed to broaden the skills and/or enhance the leadership perspective of an identified high-potential, mid-level manager; it is not a continuing position, assignment duration is NTE 36 months.
Duties
Performs Career Broadening assignments/duties.
In a Career Broadening capacity, plans, initiates and implements guidelines for the acquisition, management and disposal of real property at active Air and Space Force bases worldwide.
Learns and serves as a Department of the Air Force source of legal expertise in complex environmental law matters, including compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations in areas of environmental law, occupational safety and health, and natural and cultural resources.
Provides legal advice and services to the Agency on real estate transactions and related matters.

- PCS cost will be paid IAW Career Broadening Policy under this agreement.
- Career Broadening positions are managed by AFPC/DPCZ and are centrally funded.
- Positions are established specifically to provide developmental experience designed to broaden the skills and/or enhance the leadership perspective of a high-potential, mid-level manager.
- Career Broadening also provides training and developmental opportunities at various organizational levels.
- These assignments offer the qualified candidate a unique assignment in that the candidates brings certain experience to the assignment while gaining new experiences in a different work environment
- TEMPORARY PROMOTION: If the position is filled as a temporary promotion, upon completion of the career broadening assignment, the temporary promotion may lead to permanent promotion without further competition
- Travel by regularly scheduled commercial or military conveyances IAW Joint Travel Regulations may be required in performance of TDY
- Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays
- Employee must maintain current certifications
- Employee may be required to file an Office of Government Ethics (OGE) Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and annually thereafter.
- Graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, and currently licensed as an attorney, in active (or equivalent) status and in good standing, with the bar of a U.S. state, territory or commonwealth.
- Employee must adhere to the Air Force Rules of Professional Conduct
- 3 yrs of professional legal experience is highly desired
Qualifications
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
You MUST have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD).
In addition, at the time of application, you must provide proof, dated within four months of application, of "active" status, in good standing, with a bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia.
Specialized Experience: In addition to the basic requirement, you must have professional legal experience in excess of two (2) years that commensurate with the position's duties and responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Ability to research and respond to difficult legal questions and methods of research, analyzing, interpreting, and applying Federal and State laws, regulations, policy directives, contracts, and other legal instruments.
2. Knowledge of modern legal practices and research resources, including LEXIS and skill in performing extensive legal research and analysis in areas of law.
3. Highly skilled in written advocacy in order to prepare and present written and oral legal opinions to customers, regulators and administrative bodies.
4. Skill and ability to conduct legal research into complex state and federal environmental rules, regulations, and laws.
5. Knowledge of office and word processing automation software functions to support office operations, including electronic mail, software applications including, Microsoft Word, Access, and PowerPoint to produce a variety of textual documents, such as letters, reports, memos, and briefs.
6. Ability to independently retrieve, analyze and present information in an easily understood format.
7. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain and enhance stakeholder contacts (including regulators) in a professional manner in support of the client's goals.
Education
EDUCATION: Must be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, and be currently licensed as an attorney, in active (or equivalent) status and in good standing, with the bar of a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth. The attorney must maintain such bar membership in at least one jurisdiction during the entire course of employment with the Air Force.
