Duties

Formulate and develop interpretive and education programs that fulfill the purpose of the park's enabling legislation, general management plan, and the long-range interpretive plan. Coordinate, develop, and maintain collaborative relationships with park Friends Group, cooperating association, and a wide range of mission-enhancing partners. Coordinate and lead public affairs, community engagement, and outreach activities in support of complex public relations issues and mission-enhancing activities. Provide administrative and technical supervision and direction to the four full-time positions who provide interpretation, volunteer management, education, visual information and media, outreach, and public affairs support in three different geographic districts, and two full-time commercial services staff. Manage division's budget process by developing costs required for long range interpretive and commercial services program goals. Physical Demands: Most work is sedentary, but incumbent is expected to travel when necessary and work in outdoor settings, which require hiking and enduring various, occasionally extreme, environmental conditions. Situations may arise with short deadlines, considerable time constraints and long hours requiring the incumbent to be flexible with work hours. The intensity and variety of workload may result in significant periods of stressful activity. Work Environment: Work is performed primarily in an office environment, meeting room, or similar setting. Travel may be frequent and involves the normal risks and discomforts of automobile, bus, rail, or air transportation travel. During periods of fieldwork the employee may be exposed to a variety of climates, altitudes, and other environmental factors. During fieldwork, the employee may need to ride in boats and may need to enter caves to audit guided cave tours. Area Information: No housing available Ozark National Scenic Riverways is located in the heart of the Ozark Highlands of Missouri, in the southeastern portion of the state on the Current and Jack's Fork Rivers. The park features 134 miles of crystal clear, spring-fed rivers that are flanked by scenic bluffs, low mountains, and numerous springs and caves. Recreational opportunities abound and include kayaking, "tubing", fishing, hunting, and swimming. Hiking and mountain biking trails are plentiful in the area. The duty station for this position is at Park Headquarters in Van Buren, Missouri. Limited shopping, medical, and dental are available. For more shopping, medical, dental, and entertainment Popular Bluff and West Plains, Missouri are approximately 40 miles from Van Buren. Summers are warm and humid and winters are normally mild. Major attractions are located in St. Louis, Springfield, and Memphis two and half to three hours away. Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/23/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-13 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following: supervising a park interpretive program; managing a visitor services program; administering a volunteer program; developing and managing partnerships with Federal and State agencies and private and community organizations; serving as a lead interpretive ranger, educator or recreation planner in a park, historic site, recreation, or conservation area; management or program specialist work involving the development and/or implementation of policy related to the interpretation or management of park areas or similar operations; or other similar work. divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
