This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DIB & MRTFB to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Industrial Operations, Theatre Missile Systems Division at Letterkenny Army Depot, in Chambersburg, PA

Duties

Wire circuit breaker panels, generators or hydraulic power units requiring intricate adjustment. Utilize blueprints, manuals, diagrams, and other instructions for technical work within the organization. Develop, test or finalize reconditioning and testing procedures within the organization. Perform alignment on system with hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic components. Determine nature and scope of repair or replacement requirements to final assembly and of unit. Perform certified soldering in accordance with current military specifications.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be willing to travel (TDY) up to 20% of the time.
  • Must be willing to accept a term position.
  • Must be willing to complete a one year trial period.
  • Must be willing to undergo pre- employment and annual physical examinations.

Qualifications

This is a term position not to exceed 13 months. Term positions may be extended up to a maximum of 6 years, and MAY NOT be converted to permanent. Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Ordnance Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) determining extent of repairs and modification to intricate air defense missile systems; 2) testing assemblies and sub- assemblies of mechanical and electrical systems and 3) performing alignment of systems with hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic components. Be able to operate specialized test equipment such as oscilloscopes, a variety of meters, controls, hydraulic test set, etc., to perform in progress and final tests. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are property performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT There is frequent standing, bending, and working in tiring positions, although there is occasional sitting down at test consoles or workbenches. It is required to lift, push or pull a variety of items weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally some above that weight. WORKING CONDITIONS May work in an environmentally controlled area or in areas that are well lighted, heated and ventilated. Subject to high frequency noise, cuts, bruises, and burns or shocks caused by high voltage energy. Also may be required to wear special protective clothing including head and shoe covering.
