About the Position: This position is located in the Madigan Army Medical Center's Nutrition Care Division, Tacoma, Washington.
Duties
Pass on to workers instructions received from the supervisor.
Ensure that all recipes, supplies, equipment and cooking utensils are available for use by those workers being led.
Check for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
Work along with other cooks and food service workers, setting the pace.
Prepare a variety of menu items to include regular and special diet entrees and desserts. Roasts, broils, bakes, fries, boils, steams and stews meats, fish and poultry.
Open and close dining facility in accordance with local Standard Operating Procedures.

- This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315
- This position requires the employee to wear a uniform attire while on duty.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires the employee to use Safety Shoes.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Shift hours are from 0500-1300 hours and from 1000-1900 hours.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common cook leader tasks including preparing and cooking a variety of menu items, following recipes and making adjustments for serving sizes. I can encourage and lead other employees to follow supervisor's instructions. In addition, demonstrate proper work methods, and answer workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and/or other directive under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Work involves frequent lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 45 pounds and constant standing and walking. May occasionally be required to lift over 45 pounds (e.g., pans of meat, containers of milk).
Working Conditions: Incumbent is subject to injuries from equipment used; and is exposed to cooking oils, grease and heat from ovens. There is danger of slipping on floors which are wet from daily mopping or where food or beverage has been dropped.
