Duties

Perform a variety of maintenance tasks on ranges, facilities, and training areas. Perform quality assurance inspections. Operate Target Systems utilizing computer controlled target systems. Execute scenario step sequences for operation of range targets located downrange. Monitor Range Control Station and Portable Handheld Control device feedback to determine correct operation and report malfunctions. Operate and maintain vehicles up to 5-ton trucks, trailers, commercial farm equipment, forklifts, man lifts, skid steer, and various other construction equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 70 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

Stand, stoop, bend, kneel. climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work requires climbing up and down a steep flight of stairs to perform assignments. Frequently lifts and carries equipment and parts over uneven terrain that weigh up to 70 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work primarily outside, in dirt, dust and mud. Is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in windy or cold weather. Exposed to overhead artillery firing, loud noises and military live fire training. May be required to enroll in lead and hearing monitoring conservation programs. Is occasionally exposed to possibility of broken bones, electrical shock and burns.
