The primary purpose of this position is to maintain ongoing prototype systems; implement maintenance and repair procedures on major modifications of systems assigned to the activity; maintain unusually complex systems that have frequent engineering changes such as in the design, construction, operating and servicing procedures.

Duties

- Maintains ongoing prototype systems; implements maintenance and repair procedures on major modifications of systems assigned to the activity; and maintains unusually complex systems that have frequent engineering changes such as in the design, construction, operating and servicing procedures. - Sets up and operates complex software controlled automated test equipment (ATE) to troubleshoot and repair prototype systems; systems on which major modifications have been made; and unusually complex systems that have frequent engineering change. - Uses and maintains hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and microsoldering units. - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. - Keeps abreast of new and emerging state of the art and state of the market technologies. Documents work assignments through the use of AFTO Form 781 series and Core Automated Maintenance Systems (CAMS) computer terminals.

  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for the position.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
  • The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required.
  • Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components.
  • Base is located in a high cost living area.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an ELECTRONICS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of electronic theoretical concepts, design, and operating electronic principles such as circuit elements, digital logic, microprocessors, core memory, interface circuits, digital data transmission, microwave, antennas, signal behavior, amplification, and display to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain malfunctions in complex electronic systems consisting of numerous complex integral components and where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of individual circuits, and the possible interaction of other circuits which create a malfunction. 2. Knowledge of mathematics of the trade. 3. Knowledge of safety and environmental standards, regulations, and requirements. 4. Skill in working with new or complex systems and the use of complex ATE equipment and the related computer programs, and electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, pulse and signal generators, distortion and waveform analyzers, digital data generators, digital voltmeters, frequency generators, special test panels, and computer terminals. 5. Skill to interpret electronics drawings, specifications, and schematics of complex operating systems such as a new data transmission system with analog-to-digital converters, pulse generators, multiplexers, timing circuits, microwave transmitters and receivers, and similar involved subunits which create and use many interlocking signals. 6. Skill in troubleshooting complex electronic systems that lack documentation and to assist engineers in the development of technical orders using reverse engineering procedures. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 40 pounds. Sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee typically works in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes in high and restricted places, under conditions of heat and cold outside in inclement weather. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock, burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder, and cuts and bruises. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
