About the Position: This position is located with the US Installation Management Command, US Army Garrison Fort Johnson, Directorate of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshall Division, Patrol/Traffic Operations Branch, Police Desk Section at Fort Johnson, Louisiana.

Duties

Responsible for both pre-instructional and instructional actions including overall maintenance and improvement of assigned course areas of law enforcement. Serve as Lead Instructor and Field Training Officer (FTO) program manager for the agency with responsibility for development and maintenance of courses, lesson plans, and examinations. Develop and/or utilize law enforcement specific qualification standards, training plans, program instruction, course data, field manuals, and other training products in accordance with the System Approach to Training (SAT) process. Perform full range of police operations duties as a Department of the Army Police Officer. Advise all levels of management concerning determinations of law enforcement training needs; sources of training support; design and presentation of law enforcement training; and evaluation of results. Review contractor developed curriculum, training material and evaluate contactor performance. Test law enforcement plans and training exercises to evaluate police force response to each tasks.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • Must pass the Federal Law Enforcement training center mixed basic police training program, other state or locally accredited police officer training program, or military services certified academy, prior to assignment of law enforcement duties.
  • Incumbent must also successfully complete semi-annual qualification on his or her assigned weapon.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • Must meet the conditions of employment identified in Army Regulation (AR) 190-56; "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program,". Prior to appointment you must agree in writing to adhere to these conditions of employment.
  • This position requires an initial and periodic medical examination to assess your ability to take the Physical Ability Test and to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • This position requires you to pass the record Physical Ability Test (PAT) within 30 days of being hired and annually thereafter.
  • This position requires the selectee to qualify annually for the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) as explained in IAW 190-56, Chapter 3.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicioususe of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • The position requires the selectee possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Hours of work are subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
