This position is in the Behavioral Science Division of the National Center for PTSD at the VA Boston Healthcare System and acts as the Research Associate for projects related to; basic mechanisms of posttraumatic adjustment including genes and personality development factors; effectiveness and efficiency of treatments for veterans and their families; related topics including the examination of PTSD, traumatic brain injury and neuropsychological functioning; issues related to PTSD and aging.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include but may not be limited to: Collaborate with project director, to facilitate the running of the study, including assisting with monitoring survey data collection. Submit results to conferences that are appropriate forums for professional presentation. Collect research data included in current research study. Perform literature searches and maintain bibliographic databases. Recruit and engage veterans who meet criteria for study selection for participation in the study. Perform data analysis in collaboration with supervisor. Participate in and contribute ideas and suggestion to the data analysis process, including problem formulation, hypothesis development, statistical test selection and final interpretation. Contribute to the evaluation of the feasibility of statistical programs that will be used in the development of grants, manuscripts, and presentations. NOTE: This is a part-time position (20 hours/week). The salary listed represents full-time employment and will be pro-rated based on the actual number of hours worked each pay-period. Likewise, benefits and time-off accrual will also be prorated and based on your part-time work schedule. NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 1 year 1 day). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment. Work Schedule: Part-Time, 20 hours per week Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree is required with: Major study in academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Along with the above required education you must also possess the following qualifications. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: I have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS 7) in Federal Service that includes performing the following duties: Provide administrative and research support to the Principal Investigator and Project Coordinator. Conducting clinical psychology research interviews and tests. Collecting and analyzing data using specialized statistical programs, managing databases of research collected ; (Resume(s) must clearly support the duties and experience required for this position. We will not make assumptions regarding experience.) OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): I have successfully complete 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree OR master's or equivalent graduate degree. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): I have equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate-level education (beyond 18 semester hours) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Data ManagementPsychologyResearch IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Typically the employee sits comfortably to do the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items (not to exceed 20 pounds).
