The primary purpose of this position is to perform routine and special occupational and environmental health assessments at Ebbing ANGB. Additionally. this position will perform all duties related to the management and execution of the base drinking water (DW) surveillance program to include preparing, documenting, and distributing DW reports and plans.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical/medical examination
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, GS 0698 series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of established environmental and occupational health principles, methods, and techniques sufficient to independently perform routine and special assessments of a conventional nature to control or eliminate hazardous conditions which may cause a health hazard to persons or damage property. Knowledge required to recommend control measures or possible approaches to the control of harmful exposure. Knowledge required to recognize potential health hazards associated with a particular work environment and to select appropriate sampling techniques and equipment for measuring the extent of exposure. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed at least two full years of graduate education or a master's degree with major study or at least 24 hours in any combination of courses in the health, agricultural, biological, or physical sciences. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of occupational (industrial hygiene) and environmental health concepts, principles, and practices applicable to the performance of relatively routine occupational and environmental health assessments and inspections. 2. Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and other guidance to make decisions and recommendations concerning assigned restoration, compliance, conservation, pollution prevention, and/or integration principles and practices, and health. safety, and security practices. 3. Knowledge and ability to recognize workplace and environmental factors and stresses associated with work centers along with knowledge to troubleshoot environmental problems requiring investigation of unsanitary or questionable conditions in assigned programs. 4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy; and establish effective working relationships with others. 5. Ability to prepare correspondence. briefings. and recurring and special reports regarding industrial hygiene and environmental health related issues. 6. Ability to plan, organize work, meet deadlines, and execute moderately complex, multi-faceted projects. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
