The primary purpose of this position is to provide advanced technical support and services in the accountability, installation, and maintenance of hardware; and installation, upgrade, and maintenance of software for all automated data processing (ADP) equipment, and applications programming.
Duties
Installs and maintains hardware and acts as Primary Equipment Control Officer (ECO) for all wing accountable Automated Data Processing Equipment (ADPE).
Schedules, provides technical assistance and advice on a wide variety of computer software and hardware issues.
Maintains AIS ITEC accounts and the ADPE program, redistributing and replacing IT assets among users, as needed, in support of requirements.
Controls inventory of assigned IT systems and assures physical accountability for installed hardware.
Installs, upgrades, and maintains software.
Responsible for limited specialized projects and center assignments involving development, testing, implementation, and modification of computer programs and operating procedures.

- This position may include information assurance (IA) work. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
- Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3.
Qualifications

EDUCATION: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Problem Solving AND have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07 or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Applying customer support principles, IT analytical techniques and methods, IT systems, and telecommunications principles to evaluate and determine the requirements for information technology equipment and systems; utilizing subject matter information requirements to coordinate with users and acquire information about subject matter content, processing purposes, program objectives, and similar information for use in module and modification programming; and monitoring compliance with contractual requirements and vendor hardware specifications for AIS equipment.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of the technical capabilities of computer systems and communications systems; knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces; and ability to use and maintain a computer system, equipment, and software.
Knowledge of customer support principles, IT analytical techniques and methods, IT systems in organization services, and telecommunications principles to evaluate and determine the requirements for information technology equipment and systems.
Knowledge of information technology configuration management principles and inventory control.
Knowledge of regulations, standards, policies, and procedures related to the management, acquisition, and disposition of computer equipment.
Knowledge of the terminology codes abbreviations, and graphics for preparing system documentation or programs.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to prepare a variety of documents, provide guidance and instructions, train computer users, etc.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
