Duties
This position serves as a Journeyman Marine Inspector (JMI) providing technical expertise and leadership in the enforcement of marine safety, vessel inspection, pollution prevention, vessel manning, regulations, treaties, and international conventions. The incumbent serves as the civilian resident Prevention Department's source for continuity of previous inspection policies, technical issues, special program support activity and a primary inspection representative with the maritime industry responsible for commercial vessel safety.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. - This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Qualifications
To qualify for the GS-12 Grade Level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 in the Federal service.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
Reviewing technical vessel design and construction plans to determine compliance with regulations;
Resolving maritime vessel inspection controversies;
Identifying hazardous conditions and prescribed corrective actions; and
Evaluating the compliance of foreign passenger vessel safety management systems with the International Safety Management Code and/or the International Standards Organization.
