You will serve as a LEGAL ASSISTANT (COURT)(OA) in the RLSO SOUTHWEST SAN DIEGO CA

Duties

You will monitor and annotate events for all assigned digitally recorded general and special courts-martial and other legal or quasi-legal proceedings while proceedings occur. You will prepare a verbatim or summarized transcript of proceedings, as appropriate, for recordings delineated above. You will accurately prepare and distribute all post-trial paperwork, to include Results of Trial letters (not to be confused with records of trial) for convening authorities, and confinement orders for accused sentenced to confinement. You will maintain complete post-trial court files in orderly fashion for future reference. You will attend weekly court-docketing meeting where the military judges, trial counsel, and defense counsel review the scheduled courts-martial.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience includes duties related to the following: 1) Capturing recordings of all verbal and nonverbal descriptions of court proceedings using digital court reporting equipment; 2) Preparing, proofreading, or editing trial exhibits and an accurate verbatim or summarized transcript of court proceedings; 3) Maintaining or destroying post-trial court files with regard to established policies and procedures; 4) Ensuring proper supplies and equipment are present in the courtroom and arranging for seating plans and name tags for court-martial members, attorneys and military judges; 5) Keeping a calendar and informing others of deadlines and other important dates; and similar clerical support work within an organization. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
