This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Mission Support Division, Facilities Engineering Branch, Public Works Section, New London, CT.

Duties

You will serve as the Building Management Specialist, managing a five-annex, 650 room dormitory, acting in the capacity of a facility manager, safety, and security officer; responsible for all aspects of the cadet housing complex that includes managing barracks contracts, berthing, building maintenance, furniture inventory, repair, and replacement.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.  Typical work assignments include:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.

Qualifications

GS-11:  To be qualified at the GS-11 level, applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09 or equivalent) in the Federal service; or   Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Some examples of specialized experience are managing building operations, maintenance, repair, and alteration programs; advising on optimal use of building space and facilities; directing activities related to building services and repair; preparing related building maintenance budgets; and coordination in obtaining items and services. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
