THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a MACHINIST, Position Description Number D1489000 and is part of the 109TH AW, National Guard. This vacancy does not meet the criteria for appointment of annuitants.

Duties

As a Machinist, WG-3414-11, you will perform machining operations and welding to accomplish the manufacture and repair of aircraft components, tools, equipment, parts, and special tools.

Requirements

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
  • This is an Army National Guard dual status technician position which requires military membership.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • May be required to travel by car, in military and/or commercial aircraft, and by other means of transportation as appropriate, to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license may be required for the position.

Qualifications

Military Grades: Enlisted Only GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with a basic knowledge of machining processes. Must have the ability to use drill presses, shapers, planers, and other types of associated machine tools SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months experience or training performing the full range of machining operations on most types of conventional or CNC machine tools and their various attachments. Experience or training in planning and lay out work from blueprints, worksheets and other drawings that may have missing or incorrect information. Skill in applying shop mathematics in establishing needed dimensions, such as those required for chasing threads or machining angular surfaces; locating and marking surfaces and angles to be machined. Skill in programming machining operations, setting up and operating CNC machine tools. Knowledge of and ability to apply advanced shop mathematics such as geometric and trigonometric formulas to make computation for laying out work, machining pieces at unusual or compound angles, determining gear ratios pitch, angles and other similar exact or precision dimension.
