THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC, Position Description Number D1635000 and is part of the KS 190 Air Refueling Wing, Forbes AFB, Kansas Air National Guard.

Duties

As an AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC, WG-8602-10, you will troubleshoot malfunctioning engines and interrelated propulsion system components, determine degree of disassembly or certification required, repair or replace defective components, diagnostic computers and associated hardware. Analyze malfunctions using schematic and wiring diagrams, blueprints, manufacturer's specifications, computer diagnostics data, inspection findings, trending data and aircrew debriefs. Perform engine run operation on installed and uninstalled engines to troubleshoot malfunctions or verify findings. Remove and install engines and auxiliary power units. Operate, Automated Ground Test Systems (AGETS), trouble-shoot and repair aircraft jet engines. Troubleshoot, modify, repair, and perform sequential disassembly and assembly of gearboxes and auxiliary power units. Perform evaluations that must be accomplished at critical points in the repair/build-up process using a variety of quality characteristics, consisting of complete systems or components and assemblies that undergo many steps in a repair process and have highly critical tolerances. Perform test cell operation of engine and aircraft run up, analyzes operating parameters, make final adjustments and verify that engine is operating within acceptable parameters for safe operation in the aircraft. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: This position works on a 5/4/9 compressed work schedule that consists of a 5-day workweek, then a 4-day workweek (eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day and an SDO, Scheduled Day Off) to complete the 80-hour pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E1 through E6 Compatible Military Assignments: 2A6X1 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have the general knowledge of how to troubleshoot one or more types or models of malfunctioning conventional and/or modified aircraft engines while in the aircraft or in an engine test cell and determine the degree of disassembly needed, repair or replace defective parts or components, make prescribed modifications, and make final adjustments to achieve acceptable engine operation. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have specialized experience in aircraft engine mechanics with skill and through knowledge in installing, removing, operating, and repairing a variety of conventional and modified aircraft engines and accessory systems in order to troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and/or test different types of engines in aircraft test cells, maintenance shops, and on the flight line. Do you have thorough knowledge of repair methods, degrees of disassembly necessary, and the extent of rework required before reassembly.
