This National Guard position is for a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number NGD1227000 and is part of the TN ARMY National Guard.

Duties
As a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER (Military) WG-6610-09, you will perform accurization of national match weapons (pistols, rifles, and light machine guns) on a limited basis. Accurization involves altering and refining mass-produced weapons for use in national competition, by increasing their accuracy and reliability beyond factory specifications. Disassemble weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components. Examine for defects, misalignment and malfunctions. Replaces barrels, firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, and other parts and assemblies. Modify small weapons by replacing worn or obsolete parts and using hand and power tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments. Perform overhaul, maintenance, and repair on a variety of small arms. Diagnose and identify mechanical deficiencies and/or malfunctions in weapons including: automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, automatic rifles, grenade launchers, machine guns, and rocket launchers, and other small arms and accessories. Use micrometer to measure altered tolerances and makes additional adjustments as required. Responsible for accountability, storage and security of arms and other sensitive items while they are kept for repair, usually in vaults with limited access. Perform other duties as assigned.

- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
- For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
- Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility.
Qualifications
Military Grades: E-3 through E-9 or WO1 through CW3
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Do you have experience or training which demonstrates a working knowledge to read and interpret instructions, repair manual, specifications and drawing; have a knowledge of shop mathematics sufficient to use testing devices and measuring instruments; and be proficient in the use and maintenance of hand tools and equipment?
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Do you have 18 months or 1 year equivalent to the next lower grade experience or training with substantial mechanical skill required to effectively and efficiently repair, overhaul, and rebuild small arms for both conventional uses and for weapons involving accuracy; experience to inspect, diagnose malfunctioning, wear and /or damage; experience to apply technical manuals, regulations, specifications and drawings to determine operation, assembly and tolerances of the variety of weapons worked required for successful performance?
